My Favorite Study Essentials

August 15, 2026 By thebaileyraeshow@gmail.com

5 categories that help me stay organized, focused, and ready for 10th grade

There’s something about having a good study routine that makes schoolwork feel a little less overwhelming. When I have my space organized, my notes in order, and everything I need within reach, it’s much easier to sit down and actually focus. Now that I’m in 10th grade, I’m learning that staying organized is less about having a million school supplies and more about having the right essentials that work for me.

I also don’t think studying needs to be boring. Your study setup can reflect your personality, whether you love colorful notes, prefer everything digital, or need a quiet and cozy space to concentrate. The important thing is finding a system that helps you learn without making school feel more stressful than it already can be.

Instead of sharing a huge list of individual products, I’m breaking my favorite study essentials into five categories. These are the areas I think make the biggest difference when it comes to staying organized, focused, productive, and ready for whatever school throws my way. 📖✨

🗂️ 1. Organization Essentials

One of my biggest study essentials is having a good organization system. Between assignments, projects, tests, extracurricular activities, and everything else happening during the school year, it can be really easy to forget something if you don’t have a system to keep track of it all.

This category includes everything that helps me keep my school life in order, from planners and calendars to folders, notebooks, and digital organization tools. I like having a place where I can see upcoming deadlines and keep important class materials together instead of constantly searching through my backpack.

What falls into this category:

  • Planners and calendars
  • Folders and binders
  • Assignment trackers
  • Digital calendars
  • To-do lists
  • School schedules
  • File organization

The goal isn’t to have the most complicated organization system. It’s to create one that is simple enough that you’ll actually use it every day.

✏️ 2. Writing & Note-Taking Essentials

Taking good notes is a huge part of studying, especially when you’re learning something that you know you’ll need to remember later. Having writing and note-taking tools that you enjoy using can make the process feel more engaging.

For me, this category is all about creating notes that are easy to understand and review. Whether I’m writing in a notebook, highlighting important information, making diagrams, or creating study guides, I want my notes to help me actually understand the material, not just copy down everything the teacher says.

What falls into this category:

  • Notebooks
  • Pens and pencils
  • Highlighters
  • Sticky notes
  • Flashcards
  • Colored pens
  • Study guides

You don’t have to make your notes look perfect or spend hours decorating every page. What matters most is that your notes make sense to you and help you remember what you’ve learned.

💻 3. Study & Technology Essentials

Technology has become such a big part of school, so having the right digital tools can make studying much easier. From researching a topic to completing assignments, creating presentations, or reviewing class materials, there are so many ways technology can support learning.

This category includes the devices, apps, websites, and digital resources I use for school. A laptop or tablet can be especially helpful when you need to access online assignments or organize digital notes, while educational apps can make reviewing certain subjects more interactive.

What falls into this category:

  • Laptop or tablet
  • Educational apps
  • Digital note-taking tools
  • Online research resources
  • Digital calendars
  • Cloud storage
  • School platforms

Of course, technology can also become a distraction. I try to keep unnecessary notifications turned off when I’m studying so I can use my devices as tools instead of getting pulled into social media every five minutes.

🎧 4. Focus & Productivity Essentials

Sometimes the hardest part of studying isn’t the actual schoolwork. It’s getting yourself to focus. That’s why I think productivity essentials deserve their own category.

A good study environment can make a huge difference. I like having a clean workspace, comfortable seating, and whatever helps me stay focused without making studying feel miserable. For some people that might mean instrumental music, while someone else might need complete silence.

What falls into this category:

  • Headphones
  • Study playlists
  • Timers
  • A clean workspace
  • Comfortable desk setup
  • Productivity apps
  • Break schedules

I also like breaking larger assignments into smaller chunks. Instead of thinking about everything I need to finish at once, I’ll focus on one task at a time. It makes a huge assignment feel much more manageable.

And don’t forget to take breaks! Sitting at your desk for hours without moving isn’t necessarily going to make you more productive. Sometimes stepping away for a few minutes is exactly what you need to come back feeling refreshed.

💧 5. Self-Care Essentials

This might be the most important category of all because studying is only one part of being a successful student. Taking care of yourself matters too.

When I’m tired, hungry, dehydrated, or completely burned out, concentrating on schoolwork becomes so much harder. That’s why I think self-care should be part of your study routine rather than something you only think about after everything else is finished.

What falls into this category:

  • Water and hydration
  • Nutritious snacks
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Short movement breaks
  • Good sleep
  • Relaxation time
  • Time away from screens

I also think it’s important to remember that taking a break isn’t being lazy. Your brain needs time to recharge, and giving yourself permission to rest can actually help you come back to your work with more energy.

✨ How I Put My Study Essentials Together

The best part about these categories is that they don’t have to look the same for everyone. One person’s perfect study setup might be a desk covered in colorful supplies, while someone else’s might be a laptop, headphones, and a simple notebook.

For me, the goal is to create a routine where everything has a purpose. I want my organization tools to help me keep track of schoolwork, my note-taking supplies to help me learn, my technology to make studying easier, my productivity tools to help me focus, and my self-care essentials to make sure I’m not forgetting about myself in the process.

You don’t need to buy everything at once either. Start with the areas where you struggle the most and build from there. If you’re always forgetting assignments, focus on organization. If your notes are difficult to review, work on your note-taking system. If you’re constantly distracted, create a better focus routine.

📚 My Biggest Study Tip

Having cute supplies and a great study setup is fun, but the most important essential is consistency.

You can have the prettiest planner, the best laptop, and every highlighter imaginable, but none of those things can do the work for you. Creating small habits, reviewing your notes, keeping track of assignments, starting projects early, and asking for help when you need it, is what really makes a difference over time.

And don’t compare your study routine to someone else’s. What works for your best friend might not work for you, and that’s completely okay. Experiment, figure out how you learn best, and build a routine around that.

💫 Final Thoughts

As I continue through 10th grade, I’m realizing that being prepared for school isn’t about having a perfect routine or buying every study product that’s trending online. It’s about finding the tools and habits that make my school life easier.

For me, my favorite study essentials come down to five simple categories: organization, note-taking, technology, focus and productivity, and self-care. Together, they create a balanced approach to studying that helps me stay on top of my responsibilities while still making room for the rest of my life.

School can definitely get busy, but it doesn’t have to feel completely overwhelming. Find what works for you, stay organized, give yourself breaks, and remember that you don’t have to be perfect to make progress.

Now, excuse me while I grab my notebook and get back to studying! 📚✏️💻✨
